The ideal candidate for this position will have recent tax experience in a public accounting setting. We are looking for individuals who have some of the necessary technical skills, but most important is the ability and capacity to learn-candidates who can fit in at the office as well as with clients, who take notes, who learn from their mistakes, and who show initiative to learn new skills. We are an established but growing public accounting firm and are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to work on multiple tax engagements, ensuring the delivery of quality tax services to firm clients. “We are actively hiring at all levels, for all departments within the firm. They asked about your background in accounting or for the department you are hiring for, then they go into more personality questions to see if you will fit in.” The interview was easy, no hard questions. “The best candidate is someone who is comfortable being around people from different backgrounds, can adapt easily, and loves to travel. They make sure the candidate fit the position by asking if there are willing for traveling, work with pressure sometimes, rating the skills in Microsoft and others.” They allow the candidates to reschedule if the candidate is not available to do the interview. They are also very prompt during the process. “The people who do the interviews are very gentle and nice. They do look for candidates that will be a good fit within the firm and have the relevant skillsets to perform their assigned job.” “The firm is interviewing candidates constantly and is always looking for talent to bring to the firm.We seem to never have time for each other.” However, during the week, colleagues can be so busy that even simple things are difficult to accomplish. I am still learning more about this field and enjoy working with the other professionals at the firm. “I do enjoy my weekends and evenings and can still say I'm doing great work for interesting clients and that work is making a difference.Downsides are the commute and that people have to pay for parking.” And best aspect is that we are hybrid so we get to work from home. The firm is always encouraging the use of vacation time and makes sure to not bother staff when on PTO. As a working mother, work/life balance is the most important thing to me, and Calibre absolutely excels at offering that.”

Even vacation during busy season is acceptable, with proper planning. It is very easy to use time off and managers/partners are flexible. No one expects you to answer email or be reachable while on PTO. I think our firm could provide more vacation days (especially when compared to the number offered at Big 4 firms), but here, when you're on vacation, you can completely disconnect. Busy-season hours target is 50 hours/week from mid-January to April 15 only (no fall busy-season hours target). “The firm is committed to a work/life balance, and leadership sets the example from the top.The firm appears to be cognizant of this and does have methods of monitoring hours worked, work product output, and checking on staff.” Staffing is a big concern right now there are just not enough people to do all of the work. There seems to be good camaraderie within audit teams, staff levels, management, etc. I do feel like there is a nice ‘family feel’ at the firm. “The firm does seem to care about individual employees and their quality of life.
